Capital Acquisition
Discoveries Go Nowhere Without Capital.
Securing funds to turn a bioscience discovery into a business can be as challenging as making the discovery itself. Most commercial banks are not set up to lend money to entrepreneurs involved in bioscience because of the time required for development of such projects. New ventures are often launched with the knowledge that there may be years of annual losses until a drug or device is approved and available to patients.
Once the basic research is completed, the Memphis Bioworks Foundation helps entrepreneurs acquire the significant resources required to move through preclinical testing and clinical trials. That level of research is typically funded through financing from venture capital firms.
Economic growth is contagious. When bioscience companies receive funding, other less capital-intensive businesses open up to support them. So, when venture capital companies invest in bioscience, they are investing in the community.
