Vein Viewer gets EU OK

Luminetx Corp. has received the green light to market its Vein Viewer vascular imaging system in Europe.

The company got the CE Marking from the European Union Wednesday, which is similar to getting clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

For most products sold in the European market, the CE Marking is a minimum requirement for market entry. Before getting the mark, however, Luminetx had to meet the European medical device quality standard, ISO 13485 certification.

The Vein Viewer is the company's flagship product. It allows medical professionals to see veins in real time under near-infrared light and other patented technologies. Together, these technologies project a vein's location on the surface of the skin.

Luminetx is based in Memphis and it discovers, develops and commercializes medical product and biometric technologies.
