UT-Baptist Research Park
We're doing more than just research to build a world-class research park.
The first of many development projects, the UT-Baptist Research Park will be the heart of Memphis' bioscience sector. The 1.5 million square feet of lab research, education and business development space is currently under construction on ten acres in the middle of the Memphis Medical Center. The new urban campus will integrate the most current research, teaching and biomedical development in an innovative environment.
Baptist Memorial Health Care donated the land for the Research Park and the State of Tennessee provided funding to help us demolish the hospital’s old facilities. Construction began in February 2007 on the first building – a Regional Biocontainment Laboratory. Construction of the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy will follow later this year.
The complete, ten-year, six-phase master plan will include a dedicated, six-story, 165,000-square-foot world-class biotechnology research facility, state-of-the-art laboratory and office buildings, substantial vivarium space, training facilities, meeting space, and an entrepreneurs program to develop new biotechnology businesses and foster the creation of new jobs.
